Taking lessons can really improve your playing and at Encore Music lessons are an important part of what we do. We have some of the best teachers in the area and can help you improve on any part of playing from just getting started to advanced theory and improvisation. Our teachers have students starting around 6 years old and it's never too late to learn something new! Lessons are available Monday through Saturday and we have several teachers available to help work with your schedule.
You can call our lesson manager, Jason Eary to schedule your lesson with one of our teachers. Please call 1.843.814.0731.

Lee Barbour: Lee grew up in Summerville, SC and picked up his dad’s guitar in the ninth grade. He learned to play by ear, wearing out several tapes and the rewind button on his boombox. By college, he finally owned a cd player and dove into the world of jazz guitar. After reading Charlie Parker’s autobiography and learning that the saxophonist practiced eight hours a day for two years, he figured he could get the same results with four hours a day for four years. Mildly successful with this formula, he graduated with a degree in jazz guitar performance from the University of South Carolina. He then moved back to Charleston where, within a year of graduating, he became the youngest adjunct professor of jazz guitar at the College of Charleston. During his six years there, he played in several groups, including a gypsy swing band, several jazz ensembles and a touring rock band. He has played the Austin City Limits Festival, recorded with jazz guitar legend, Joe Beck, and toured with indie rockers, Band of Horses. He has been featured in Jazz Times and Spin magazine. Lee recently moved back to Charleston after a year spent teaching, playing and freezing his southern bones in New York City. He loves ping pong, nonfiction, and effects pedals more than life itself.

Jack Burg
Jack Burg has been playing drums ever since he can remember. Begining formal training at age 10 with rudiments and a practice pad, he quickly talked his mother in to buying him a full set of drums and began teaching himself by playing along to records. He has studied at The Drummer's Collective in New York City, La Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana, Cuba, as well as the Unversity of South Carolina. Also a busy sideman around town, Jack plays with anyone that will have him. Cary Ann Hearst, the V-Tones, Michael Trent, Bill Carson, Lee Barbour, The Freeloaders, Garage Cuban Band, and the Monday Metal Monday live karoke band are a few. Some of Jack's favorite drummers include John Bonham, Jim Keltner, Ringo, Levon Helm, Papa Jo Jones, Stuart Copeland, Steve Ferrone, Joey Waronker, and Animal. When not damaging his hearing as well as that of others, Jack enjoys spending time with his family, watching funny movies, and recording songs at home.

Jeff Kozelski: Jeff has been playing guitar for over 20 years. He began taking lessons when he was 12 years old and began studying music theory under Robert Newton at 19. By the age of 17, Jeff was playing solo gigs at restaurants. Jeff has played with a number of bands, most recently, King Hippo. Jeff performed lead guitar and vocals for King Hippo while they toured across the country and recorded three albums. Jeff Kozelski has been teaching guitar lessons for 6 years. He has a large curriculum from which to choose and individualize his instruction based on student need, ranging from beginner guitar to advanced jazz theory.

Jordan Alexander: A native of South Carolina and a graduate of the College of Charleston with a B. A. in music, pianist Jordan Alexander still resides in historic downtown Charleston where he is able to be an active participant in the local music scene. Jordan was a member of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra, which has performed at Carnegie Hall and is instructed by members of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. He was a two year participant in the South Carolina All-State Orchestra and performed during the Spoletto Festival at the Charleston Ballet Theater. Jordan is currently on staff at College of Charleston’s Center for Student Learning tutoring music theory, actively performing in and around the Charleston area, and teaching piano at Encore Music.
